Rare Open-Handled Redware Jar, Dated 1837, possibly Hagerstown, MD, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, inset rim, and open strap handles featuring doubly-impressed terminals. Impressed at the shoulder with the raised date "1837" within a sawtooth border. Includes a heavily-tooled domed lid, which fits over inset rim. Lead and manganese glaze applied to interior and over lower handle terminals. 2 1/8" reglued piece to bottom edge of lid. Additional lid chips, including a large and small chip to knob. Flaked section to base. Base chip. Wear to rim. Heavy glaze loss to interior. H 12".
