Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Bold Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to T. & J. Ducey, Petersburg, VA, circa 1855-1867, ovoid pitcher with flared collar and semi-rounded rim, brush-decorated with a flowering vine including berries, applied over a slip-coated surface. Swag decoration flanking the spout. Rare in maker and form, this pitcher displays an appealing floral motif based on much earlier designs from the Richmond area potteries of John Poole Schermerhorn. Two adjacent pieces of handle reglued, collectively forming an approximately 3 5/8" section of handle, and a chip at base of handle. A 7/8" in-the-firing rim chip. H 10 3/8".
