Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "W.H. FARRAR & CO. / GEDDES, NY," circa 1860, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a bird with heavily-dashed body and brushed-cobalt wing, perched atop a looping line flanked by two leaves. A bold and crisp example of the popular Farrar bird motif, decorating a desirable small-sized jug form. Provenance: Purchased by the consignor at Crocker Farm, Inc., March 5, 2011, lot 160. Small lamp wire hole drilled at base on reverse. Minor nick on top of spout. H 11 3/8".
