Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Bird Scene, Stamped "W.H. FARRAR & CO. / GEDDES . N.Y.," circa 1860, decorated with an artistically slip-trailed bird with dashed and brushed cobalt details, standing on a stylized ground or fence adorned with cobalt vines. To the left of the bird, a large striped and dotted flower, and to the right a slip-trailed "3" with flourish underneath. Maker's mark highlighted in cobalt. A beautifully decorated example. Minor fry to cobalt. 14" vertical crack from spout on reverse. Also a 10" crack from base on reverse. Base chip. Height 16".
