One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON, / BENNINGTON VT.," circa 1855, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a long-tailed bird perched on a stump atop a stylized ground. Desirable size and lesser-seen Norton bird motif. A 1" x 1/2" flake to top of spout. Some in-the-firing roughness/mottling to upper body of jug. Some light exfoliation to base. A 2 1/2" in-the-firing fissure to underside. A tiny nick to side of handle. H 11 1/2".
