Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Flowering Urn Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a bold slip-trailed design of a flowering urn brimming with two stylized flowers, leaves, and dotted trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Desirable size with thick, enamel-like application to the cobalt. Exfoliation to right of decoration. Two small handle chips. Salt residue to top of rim. Mottling to surface. H 7 3/4".
