Fine One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird on Stump Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON. / BENNINGTON VT.," circa 1855, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a plump-bodied bird perched on a tree stump. Desirable size and lesser-seen Norton bird motif. Excellent condition. with a small piece of clay adhered to bird's wing, two very minor surface lines at base on front, and a small nick to spout. Piece of lamp hardware inside of jug. Some light staining to surface. H 12 5/8".
