Extremely Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Pear Decoration, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1855, semi-ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a pear hanging from a stem with leaves, accented with spots and swags. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Fruit designs from this pottery are nearly non-existent. Very nice condition with a spout chip and some bubbling to cobalt. H 13 3/4".
