Two-Gallon Cobalt-and-Iron-Decorated Stoneware Jug, Stamped "BOSTON / 1804," Frederick Carpenter, Charlestown, MA, 1804, highly-ovoid jug with heavily-tooled shoulder, decorated with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted drape-and-tassel motif at the shoulder. Base with dipped iron-oxide decoration. Significant cracks emanating from underside. A 2" diagonal surface line below handle on reverse. A large chip to side of spout and additional chipping to spout. In-the-firing surface chips and iron pings. Traces of old paint to surface. A few minor base chips. A small chip to top of handle. H 14".
