Painted Leather Fire Bucket, American, probably Boston, MA, Dated 1815, with original painted surface, depicting an a arm grasping a fire bucket, inscribed "FRIENDS / PUBLICK / 1815", and the name, "SIMON WILKINSON", within a banner, all surrounded by scrolled foliate motifs.Painted "1" above. The 1810 federal census lists only two men named Simon Wilkinson as heads of household in the entire country; meanwhile, one of these is documented as a fireman working in Boston. Wear to surface, heavy in places. H 12 1/4".
