Glazed Redware Spittoon, Stamped "JOHN W. BELL / Waynesboro, Pa.," circa 1880, wheel-thrown form with footed base, tooled shoulder, recessed circular opening in top, and carved oval opening in shoulder, the surface covered in a streaky lead-and-manganese glaze. Underside impressed with John W. Bell maker's mark. A thin, 2 1/2" vertical crack ascending from base, continuing 1" onto underside. Small chips and in-the-firing contact marks to bottom edge. A few tiny nicks and minor wear to base area. Some light surface wear to shoulder. A minuscule nick to opening at shoulder. Diam. 7" ; H 4 1/8".
