Fine Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Stars Motif, Western PA origin, circa 1870, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a diagonally-stenciled band of four stars. Freehand stripe below rim and at base. Includes tin lid. Provenance: From a fifty-year West Virginia collection. Chipping around interior of rim and inner rim for lid. A 2" hairline from rim on front. Some tiny chips to shoulder molding. H 8 1/4".
