Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBUG .PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, brush-decorated with a flowering plant bearing unusual oval blossoms emanating from splayed leaves. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Superb color. Excellent condition with a spout chip on reverse, a tiny chip to top of spout, and some mottling to clay. H 14 1/4".
