Exceptional Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Large Cobalt Cornucopia Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1870, semi-ovoid jug with two incised lines at shoulder, decorated with a large brushed cobalt cornucopia filled with a spray of flowers. Cornucopia painted with shaded areas on the left and right sides, and a large daisy at the center. Daisy surrounded by three flowers on each side, along with numerous grass-like brushstrokes and two curling vines drooping over the edge of the cornucopia. An artistically-rendered and visually-stunning decoration. Superior color. Maker"s and capacity marks and ends of handle highlighted in cobalt. Excellent condition with a chip on interior of spout. Height 17 1/2".
