Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-squared rim, brush-decorated with a bird with spotted wing and solid-cobalt tail, perched on a stylized ground. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Exceptional size. Excellent condition with a few minor rim chips and some minor fry to cobalt. H 9 5/8".
