Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a spray of leaves. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Areas of staining throughout. A 5/8" rim chip on reverse. A small rim chip to side of crock. A 5/8" in-the-firing contact mark to reverse. A 4" hairline from rim on reverse. A 5/8" chip to interior of rim. Grease residue to underside. H 12 1/16".
