Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Chicken Pecking Corn Decoration, NY State origin, circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a plump chicken pecking kernels of corn from a stylized ground. Some fry to cobalt. A number of small chips to interior of rim. A few minor chips to exterior of rim. A 6" inverted Y-shaped crack from rim on left side of crock beside a short glazed-over line in rim. A tiny chip to one handle. Two horizontal, in-the-firing surface lines near base, measuring 2 1/4" and 2". Staining to surface. H 11 5/8".
