Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "SAM'L. I. IRVINE, / NEWVILLE, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with squared spout, brush-decorated with four conjoined flower blossoms flanked by two small foliate devices. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A few shallow chips to base, one or more of which occurred in the firing. A salt drip to handle. Some in-the-firing roughness to surface. A smooth in-the-firing contact mark to left side. H 14 1/2".
