Scarce Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "WILLIAMS & COUCH / NEW GENEVA. / PA.," late 19th century, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, featuring Williams & Couch maker's stenciling surrounding a sweeping floral stencil. Decorated below with a freehand "4" flanked by graduated dashes. Freehand stripes to shoulder and base. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Very nice condition with a 4 3/4" vertical line to side of jar, a 5 1/4" vertical line to opposing side of jar, some minor staining, and a circular in-the-firing burn to front. H 15".
