One-Gallon Iron-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "CHARLESTOWN," Frederick Carpenter, Charlestown, MA, early 19th century, ovoid jar with flared collar, featuring elaborate incised banding to the collar, shoulder, and base. Upper and lower body decorated with a dipped, reddish-brown iron-oxide decoration. A shallow 3/4" chip to front of rim. A minor chip to top of rim, possibly in-the-firing. Wear to interior of rim and inner rim for lid. A glazed-over 2 3/4" surface line at base, not visible on interior. A few typical, minor in-the-firing surface flaws. Faint traces of old green paint. H 10 1/4".
