Five-Gallon Boston, MA Stoneware Advertising Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, NY State origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jug with tooled spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a leaf. Impressed at the shoulder with the advertising, "WALKER & CO., / 27 Haverhill St., / BOSTON, MASS." Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Some fry to cobalt. Three salt drips to front. Two small spout chips and a small F-shaped line to top of spout. Some staining. Two short cracks on underside, extending a short distance onto front of jug. A spot of in-the-firing crazing to left of bird. H 19 3/4".
