Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "S.D. KELLOGG. / WHATELY," MA origin, circa 1851-1853, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a ring-necked bird with spotted body, perched in a stylized vine. Surface staining. A crack to reverse end of one handle terminal. A minor base chip. A few small in-the-firing iron pings. H 10 1/4".
