Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Stenciled Bird Motif, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES. / GREENSBORO. / PA.", circa 1875, semi-ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and spout, the front featuring Hamilton & Jones maker's stenciling surrounding a finely-stenciled design of a bird in calling stance, perched on a vine. Additional floral stenciling above the names "Hamilton" and "Jones". Shoulder with freehand vine decoration. Base with boldfaced stenciled "3" flanked by flourishes, above a freehand stripe. Cobalt highlight to upper handle terminal. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with minor spout wear and a tiny, in-the-firing iron ping to front.
