Outstanding Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Elaborate Cobalt Urn in Grapes Decoration, Stamped "O.L. & A.K. BALLARD.," Burlington, VT origin, circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large spotted urn brimming with large clusters of grapes. A visually-striking, folky design. Some waterglass staining to surface. 10 1/2" vertical crack on reverse. 5 3/4" line from rim on front. A very tight, approximately 7 1/2" vertical line on right side of decoration. Amateur restoration to large section of right side of rim.
