Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "S.B. BOSWORTH / HARTFORD, CT.," circa 1880-1890, cylindrical crock with lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird with spotted breast and heavily-shaded head, perched on a stylized plant. Bird's eye is incised into the cobalt slip. Later painted blue highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. 4 1/2" hairline from rim on right side of crock's front. Thin 5" crack on left side of crocks' front. Rim chips. Small iron ping on side of crock.
