Rare Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird on Stump Decoration, Stamped "EVAN R. JONES / PITTSTON, PA," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed design of a bird standing on a large stump with sapling sprouting from the right side. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Significant restoration to rim and shoulder area on front of crock. Additional lesser restoration to section of rim on reverse. Faint tight line from rim to shoulder on reverse. Small nicks to right handle. Small area of wear to opposite handle. Flakes to underside. Some light flakes to base on side of crock. 4 1/4" scratch to surface on side of crock.
