Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Presentation Pitcher with Incised Decoration, Inscribed "H. Fricke / 1894," attributed to the Wingender Pottery, Haddonfield, NJ, finely-potted pitcher with stepped foot, highly-ovoid body, and narrow pouring spout with tooled rim. Front of pitcher features the finely-incised inscription "H. Fricke / 1894," flanked by incised foliate designs. Heavy cobalt highlights to incising. Two cobalt stripes run the length of the handle. Additional cobalt banding at rim, base of collar, foot of pitcher. Excellent form and decoration. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, recently found in Philadelphia, PA. Two small rim chips. Tight Y-shaped line on underside which extends partway up reverse of pitcher, only partially visible on interior. Additional surface line extending partway up front of pitcher, not visible on interior. H 11 1/4".
