Rare Princeton Stoneware Mug, Dated 1901, barrel-form mug with applied handle and Albany-slip-glazed surface, featuring the large sgraffito inscription "PRINCETON / 1901" along the image of a jug, inscribed "RYE". The "O" in "PRINCETON" is inscribed "Y 6 / 98". Shoulder features the humourous inscription "Drink / To Hell with Penn.". Mug additionally decorated with a "PU" insignia and "P" pennant. Handle incised "RS" above a stick figure of a man. Underside incised "RS". Incised "31 Blair" below arch of handle. While many Yale stoneware mugs are known, this mug is first example we have seen made at Princeton University. Some roughness to rim. Otherwise excellent condition. H 5".
