One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral and Drape Decoration, possibly Abial Price, Middletown Point (now Matawan), NJ, second quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, tall collar, and applied lug handles. Decorated on one side with a brushed tulip extending from a leafy stem. Reverse decorated with draped brushwork flanking three leaves. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. The color and aspects of this jar's decoration are consistent with the work of Abial Price of Middletown Point, NJ. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. Some in-the-making, glazed-over scratch marks to surface. A few nicks to bottom edge and two small chips to top of rim appear to be in-the-firing.
