Rare Stoneware Spittoon with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Henry Lowndes, Petersburg, VA, circa 1840, with coved sides and carved oval opening at shoulder, decorated on three sides with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a flowering plant bearing three-petaled blossoms. A difficult-to-find form for this maker. Stained horizontal hairlines to rim area. Base nick with a 1" line extending through it. H 4 1/4" ; Diameter 8".
