Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Shield Decoration, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON & CO. / GREENSBORO, PA," circa 1875, tapered jar with rounded "wax sealer" rim, the jar's front decorated with an intricate stenciled shield surrounding James Hamilton maker's stenciling. Freehand stripes at shoulder and base. 3 1/2" hairline from rim. 3/4" glob of in-the-firing residue to side of jar. Small chips to interior of rim. Wear and numerous tiny chips to inner wax sealer rim. H 9 1/2".
