Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Flying Bird and Basket Decoration, Stamped "N. WHITE & CO. BINGHAMTON," NY State origin, circa 1866-1868, cylindrical jug with sloped shoulder and rounded spout, decorated with a brushed cobalt flying bird with incised eye, flanked by a slip-trailed wreath extending from an open-handled urn. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example from a Maine collection assembled during the 1980s. Salt drips to front and shoulder. Roughness to surface below maker's mark, caused by in-the-firing residue. Some fry to cobalt. H 16".
