Extremely Rare Stoneware Jug with Incised Woodpecker Decoration, Stamped "T.F. FIELD / UTICA," circa 1828-1830, highly ovoid jug with semi-squared spout and applied handle, decorated with a large incised woodpecker design with turned head, neck stripe, and crest, and accented with numerous cobalt dots along its breast. Incised and cobalt-highlighted plant designs to the left of the woodpecker and below it. Rare maker's mark and exceptional decoration. One of a small number of stoneware pieces known with a woodpecker design. Excellent, as-made condition with a few small firing flaws. H 13 1/4".
