Scarce Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug, Stamped "MABBETT & ANTHONE / PO'KEEPSIE' N Y," circa 1837-1839, highly ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a brushed cobalt floral design and a script cobalt "4". The scarce maker's mark "MABBETT & ANTHONE / PO'KEEPSIE' N Y" impressed and cobalt-highlighted below spout. As-made condition with contact marks to shoulder, in-the-firing spout chip, and some fry cobalt. H 16 5/8".
