Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Chicken Pecking Corn Decoration, Stamped "J.A. & C.W. UNDERWOOD, / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed chicken pecking kernels of corn from a stylized ground. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Some fry to cobalt. Staining to surface. A glazed-over dent to each handle. A glazed-over iron ping to shoulder on reverse. A 2" hairline from rim on reverse. A small in-the-firing dent to top of rim. A small in-the-firing ping to interior wall of crock. H 10 5/8".
