Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Chicken Pecking Corn Decoration, Stamped "RIEDINGER & CAIRE / POUGHKEEPSIE.," NY State origin, circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a chicken pecking kernels of corn from a stylized, spotted ground including grasses behind the bird. A faint 2 1/8" vertical surface line descending from the word, "POUGHKEEPSIE," not visible on interior. A 3 1/4" crack from rim on reverse. An extremely faint 4" vertical surface line on reverse, not visible on interior. Some spots of fry to cobalt. H 9 1/2".
