Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Shield Motif, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES. / GREENSBORO. PA.," circa 1875, tapering jar with rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring a stenciled design of a shield surrounding the firm name, "HAMILTON & JONES," including two stenciled stars above. Includes tin lid. Provenance: From a fifty-year West Virginia collection. Surface wear. Flecks of old white paint to surface. Inner wax sealer with a small chip and minor nick. An in-the-firing overfired area to front. H 10".
