Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Flowering Urn Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1855, ovoid pitcher with tall collar and elaborate rim molding, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a scroll-handled urn brimming with leaves, dotted accents, and a large spiraling flower. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A spider crack on underside forming a Y at base. A small in-the-firing iron ping near base. A 4 1/2" vertical surface line on reverse, not visible on interior. A 2" vertical surface line on reverse, not visible on interior. Two minor chips to interior of rim. Some light staining to reverse. H 13 1/8".
