One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Bowl with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "SOLOMON BELL / STRASBURG / Va," circa 1850-1880, flaring form with arched lug handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a hanging floral motif flanked by swags, the designs applied over slip-coated clay. Dash decoration below handles and cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Maker's mark and capacity mark below one handle. A 1" rim chip. A warped area to rim. A minor in-the-firing contact mark to front and reverse. Diam. 11 3/4" ; H 5 1/2".
