Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Leaf Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid pitcher with tooled body and flared collar with semi-rounded rim, brush-decorated with a large leaf extending across the front. Small flower or leaf motif on spout. Cobalt accents to maker's mark and capacity mark. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Very nice condition. A very shallow, 1" unglazed flake to interior of rim, possibly in-the-making. A small amount of fry to cobalt. Some in-the-firing contact marks at base. A small stain below rim. H 13 1/4".
