Eight-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "R.T. WILLIAMS. / NEW GENEVA. / PA," circa 1880, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-squared rim, featuring R.T. William's maker's stenciling accented with a stenciled floral and scrolled devices. Freehand stripe and swag motifs above. Large freehand "8" flanked by dashes at base. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Traces of whitish paint at base and reverse, unrelated to any sort of restoration. Otherwise excellent, essentially as-made condition with an in-the-firing contact mark to left of "R" in "R.T. WILLIAMS." H 18 3/4".
