Exceptional Miniature Glazed Redware Jar, Stamped "JOHN W. BELL / WAYNESBORO, Pa.," circa 1880, ovoid form with tooled shoulder and semi-squared rim, the lead-glazed surface decorated with heavy manganese sponging over a bright-orange ground. This jar is the smallest example of pottery that we have offered featuring the stamp of John B. Bell's son, John William Bell (1828-1895), visible in imposing letters across the diminutive vessel's shoulder. Extremely rare in size, the jar features striking coloration and a brilliant luster to the glaze, appearing essentially as it did when it was made. Excellent condition with a minor chip to underside at edge and some residue from use to interior base. H 3 1/4".
