Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1850, cylindrical form with squared rim, applied lug handles, and stepped bunghole, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with an unusual flowering plant bearing open-centered, fan-shaped blossoms. Cobalt spot decoration to bunghole. Cobalt band around bunghole and highlights to handle terminals. Wavy stripe decoration below rim. Heavy chipping to base. Shallow chipping to bunghole. A Y-shaped crack across underside, part of which extends 5" up front and part of which extends 4" up reverse. An 8 1/2" Y-shaped line to side of cooler. H 13 3/4".
