Scarce Half-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX," Harrisburg, PA origin, circa 1865, ovoid pitcher with footed base and stepped rim molding, brush-decorated at the midsection with a horizontal floral motif composed of graduated, vertically-brushed dashes. Cobalt floral device to spout. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. A lesser-seen Cowden form in a rare size. A 1 1/8" flake to rim on reverse. A small rim chip on side of pitcher. Some flakes to underside. Minor traces of old white paint flecks, unrelated to any sort of restoration. H 8".
