Five-Gallon Double-Handled Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "C.L. WILLIAMS & Co / BEST / BLUE STONEWARE / NEW GENEVA / PA," circa 1890, cylindrical jug with tooled shoulder and two applied handles, featuring C.L. Williams maker's stenciling below a large stenciled "5" flanked by flourishes. Two in-the-firing contact marks to right handle. Left handle with a glazed-over, in-the-firing iron ping. Large in-the-firing losses to base, created when the jug adhered to another object during the firing. Two in-the-firing contact marks to shoulder on reverse.
