Very Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Jug, Stamped "W. STATES", William States, Stonington, CT, circa 1811-1823, ovoid jug with tooled spout, impressed with the scarce Stonington, CT maker's mark, "W. STATES", at the shoulder. Exceptional size. Possibly one of the smallest known examples of signed Stonington, CT pottery. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with an iron ping to shoulder, a tiny nick to bottom edge, and other minor firing flaws, consistent with pieces of this age and origin. The "W." of the maker's mark is largely non-existent. H 6 3/4".
