Rare and Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration and Roman Numeral III, Uniontown, PA origin, circa 1865, cylindrical jar with semi-rounded rim, applied lug handles, and tooled midsection, the front decorated with two large, curved-stem tulips flanking the Roman numeral "III" for three gallons. Freehand cobalt stripes above and below. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed with a Morgantown-style three-gallon capacity mark on top of rim. Most of one handle missing. Otherwise excellent condition. Large sealed Y-shaped crack at base, continuing onto underside as a tight line.
