Unusual Glazed Redware Pitcher, New York State origin, possibly Lorenzo Johnson, Newstead, Erie County, NY, circa 1850, straight-sided pitcher with heavily-ribbed handle and tooling to shoulder and rim, the surface covered in a lead glaze over a mottled reddish ground with greenish-cream streaks cascading from the rim. Excellent form and color. Provenance: The Stradlings; Garth's Auction, 1980. Base chips. A tight Y-shaped crack to base, continuing 1 1/2" onto underside. A 1 1/4" chip to interior of rim, a small rim chip, and other minor rim wear. A small in-the-firing contact mark to midsection. Some typical light surface wear to midsection. H 8".
