Outstanding Five-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, probably Barnabus Edmands, Charlestown, MA, circa 1860, ovoid form with tooled banding and stepped bunghole, the front heavily-decorated with three rows of stylized slip-trailed designs, including tulip blossoms, tall spotted flowers and graduated grasses, and floral sprays emanating from the bunghole. Brushed cobalt highlights to banding, surrounding bunghole, and within maker's mark. Excellent decoration and color. A 10" crack from rim on reverse. Minor chips to interior of rim.
