Scarce Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Bowl, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, tapered bowl or pan with squared rim, decorated around the shoulder with seven groups cobalt swags, applied over slip-washed clay. Albany-slip-glazed interior. Unusual form. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, recently found in the Midwestern U.S. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with two minor in-the-firing contact marks. H 4 3/8" ; Diameter 8 1/2".
